Yup, this is me putting myself out there, big time. Well this blog has been a long time coming, so I figure its appropriate. This photo was taken in 2007 in Paris. That croissant there is from the famous Pierre Herme and I have had few better than that one in my life. And I assure you I've been looking!
I'm very excited to be here in my little piece of internet-land. I am honoured to join the countless number of food focused people like me who have already helped coin the phrase "foodblogger". They have entertained and inspired me to think differently about the food I eat and cook. My intention with this little soapbox of mine, or maybe I should call it a cheesebox, will be to organize and share my original and tested recipes, to allow those in my life to better understand me, and to take part in the field of food writing and photography. I've been cooking voraciously for my entire adult life, some of it for money, most of it for fun. You can expect a mix of posts on this blog from recipes and tutorials to restaurant experiences and travel tidbits. As these are the beginning days, the content on here is slim, but stay with me and I will offer you lots of tasty things to entertain and inspire you. Come back frequently for your "tea and cookies". Comments are welcome, of course, so feel free to join a discussion.
Oh, and some of you might be wondering "Why Lemon Tart?". Well, a former obsession with some mighty fine lemon tartlets from a local shop lead me to start making my own when they changed them. Upon finding a recipe that exceeded all my very particular expectations of this classic dessert, it very quickly became my specialty. A lemon tart is a dessert that crosses many cultures, is a favourite among the very young and the very old, and is made of simple ingredients and techniques. It's a cheery colour and shape with its shiny yellow top and its pleasantly crinkly tart shell ridges. And every time you serve it "oohs and ahhs" abound because of its familiarity and "stand up and pay attention" flavours. Yet, it still seems difficult to find a masterfully crafted lemon tart that fulfills that sweet, tart and crunchy that I desire. Among all the desserts I make it is still a comfort food for me and something I never tire of. So for all these reasons Lemon Tart seemed right.
