We are avoiding the crowded restaurants tonight and enjoying a Valentines dinner at home. This will be as special as eating in a grand restaurant, minus the service staff and dishwasher of course. Add in the option of pajamas at the table and the company of our beloved dog, Emma, and it couldn't be more perfect. If we were in France Emma would be welcome under the table, but I don't think the pajamas would be. I'll be posting photos tomorrow of our dinner which will include oysters, champagne and a very special fungus.
One of the amazing things about being together as long as DG and I is that we can enjoy a day like Valentines Day with or without the sweet fanfares of surprise gifts and grand plans (although I am loving my new earrings!) The experience of cooking a special meal together has always been one of our favourite ways of spending time together. We make ourselves a cocktail and some hors d' oeuvres, put some fun music on, and get to the business of cooking, side by side. The table will be set with red tulips, my Gramma's silver and some crisp white restaurant linens. And we do look forward to a beautiful bottle of champagne.
I hope you feel loved by somebody today and enjoy a sweet treat or two. I have loved having you as readers so consider these cookies my valentines gift to you.
